On October 3, 2016, automotive designer Henrik Fisker and his wife Geeta Gupta-Fisker launched Fisker Inc in Los Angeles as the spiritual successor to Fisker Automotive, blending minimalist Scandinavian design with sustainable electric powertrains. Their first production model, the Ocean SUV, debuted in 2022 featuring a solar-roof option, vegan interior materials, and an asset-light manufacturing pact with Magna Steyr in Austria to speed volume while cutting capital outlay. By the end of 2023, Fisker had produced 10,142 Oceans and delivered about 4,700 units across North America and Europe, generating $272.9 million in revenue for the year. Hobbled by rapid cash burn, supply-chain setbacks and quality issues, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on June 17, 2024, listing assets of $500 million to $1 billion and liabilities of $100 million to $500 million as it seeks to restructure debt and sell its remaining assets.
