Honda was founded on September 24, 1948 in Hamamatsu, Japan by Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa. Initially focused on small two-stroke engines, the company launched its first motorcycle, the Dream D, in 1949. An early milestone came in 1960 when Honda became the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer. In 1963 Honda entered the automobile market with the T360 mini truck and S500 sports car, marking the start of its evolution into a full line mobility company. Honda’s key innovation came with the CVCC combustion system in the early 1970s, which met U.S. emissions standards without a catalytic converter. That helped establish its reputation for engineering that blends performance and environmental responsibility. Today Honda offers a broad range from the Civic compact to the luxury Acura line and is accelerating electrification with models such as the Honda e and pioneering fuel cell technology under its vision of sustainable mobility.
