Ineos Automotive sprang to life in early 2016 when Sir Jim Ratcliffe sketched out plans for a no-nonsense off-roader over a beer at The Grenadier pub in London. By February 2018 a 200-strong engineering team was working full-time in Stuttgart. An early milestone came in March 2019 with a powertrain partnership with BMW that cemented the Grenadier’s rugged credentials. The brand fused British design vision with German engineering precision. Production kicked off at the Hambach plant in France in July 2022 and first deliveries rolled out in December that year. Ineos Automotive remains laser-focused on hardcore capability. Today it is expanding its portfolio with quartermaster and special-edition Grenadier variants while developing hydrogen fuel-cell versions and refining off-road tech to carve out a dedicated niche beyond mainstream SUVs.
