INFINITI launched on November 8, 1989 in Nishi-ku, Yokohama as Nissan’s answer to luxury imports. The first Q45 sedans and M30 coupes arrived at 51 U.S. dealers in early 1990 and challenged established rivals from Germany and America. An early milestone came when the Q45’s 278-horsepower V8 and advanced double-wishbone suspension earned top honors in U.S. road tests. The brand made its mark by introducing factory-integrated navigation in 1991 and pioneering laser cruise control later in the decade. Infiniti models appeared in films and TV shows, reinforcing a tech-forward image. Today the lineup spans from the Q50 sports sedan to the seven-seat QX60 and range-topping QX80. Infiniti is now shifting toward electrification with hybrid options and the forthcoming all-electric QX Inspiration concept under its Vision 30 plan.
