Maybach

Wilhelm Maybach left Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft in 1907 and, with his son Karl, founded an engine workshop on March 23, 1909, in Bissingen, Germany. Initially focused on airship and naval diesel engines, the firm’s first luxury automobile debuted at the 1921 Berlin Motor Show—a milestone that set new standards for elegance and engineering precision. In the interwar years Maybach coachbuilt opulent models like the 22-litre DS8 Zeppelin sedan, cementing its reputation as the pinnacle of German luxury. Revived by Daimler in 2002 to rival Rolls-Royce and Bentley, Maybach struggled as a standalone marque and was folded into Mercedes-Benz by 2015. Today it thrives as Mercedes-Maybach, offering ultra-luxury variants of the S-Class and GLS SUV alongside the all-electric EQS SUV. Under the Mercedes-Benz Group’s stewardship, the sub-brand emphasizes bespoke craftsmanship, advanced MBUX infotainment, and electric propulsion, targeting discerning buyers in China, the U.S., and the Middle East.
