MV Agusta emerged after World War II when Count Domenico Agusta pivoted from aircraft to motorcycles. On January 19, 1945, in Cascina Costa, near Milan’s Malpensa airport, he incorporated Meccanica Verghera S.r.l., laying the foundation for MV Agusta. Their first motorcycle, the MV 98, debuted later that year, marking the start of a storied racing legacy. MV Agusta’s reputation soared through the 1950s to the 1970s with an unmatched Grand Prix record: 38 riders’ titles and 37 manufacturers’ titles, stockpiling 75 world championships and dominating the 500cc class from 1956 to 1974. The brand's competitive era waned after Domenico’s death in 1971, culminating in a halt to production by 1980. Revival came in the 1990s under new ownership. In recent years, MV Agusta reestablished momentum. Under Pierer Mobility’s ownership, it hit a milestone in 2024 by selling approximately 4,000 motorcycles, a 116 % increase over the previous year, and launched record parts sales, while maintaining a robust global dealership network.
