He had an idea of what the problem was and an estimate of the time to repair the issue.  The mechanic confirmed that Brian had diagnosed the problem correctly.  They were able to get the work completed yet that day and the cost was less than their original estimate as they actually did not need to make all the repairs that were initially considered to be necessary.  We were grateful that they were so honest.  We had not had lunch and they let us borrow a vehicle and even recommended an excellent restaurant.
